  • Set up a new area of work on climate technologies for adaptation and mitigation, including liaison with the UNFCCC Technology Executive Mechanism, developing a portfolio of support to countries, developing a technical document to be launched at CoP 29

  • Over the years in this position, I have shaped and led a high calibre multidisciplinary team that delivers on FAO’s work on the clean energy solutions and agrifood systems’ nexus at local, country and global level as part of FAO's ongoing programme of work
  • Through this strategy, I developed a response system that could respond to requests and support countries in all areas of work ranging from clean energy solutions for agrifood chains, sustainable bioenergy development, renewable energy pathways and the linkages to food security, and energy in humanitarian settings
  • For example, I developed a procurement response system that reduced the response to procurement requests from months to two weeks and created a continuous flow of income into the team
  • As part of my day to day tasks, I closely monitor budget, budget allocations and planning, technical resource allocation and planning, timelines, deliverables’ timelines and human resource planning, communication, dissemination and knowledge product development
  • I managed and technically led projects for countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America and for diverse stakeholders as national country stakeholders, government agencies, GEF, IRENA, IEA, UNEP Cool Coalition, Climate and Clean Air Coalition, World Bank, EBRD and IFAD
  • Under my leadership, FAO published the first co-branded publication with the IEA in the area of energy and agriculture
  • In 2022, my team supported a break-through of four energy events at COP27 (versus zero in the previous year), won a 20 million project proposal with IKI, moved into new and cutting edge areas of work with key stakeholders as the World Bank within a project portfolio of 80 million investment, the EBRD for a 20 million project, new areas of work including fisheries and energy, cold chains and agriculture with the publication of a joint report for FAO and UNEP and a ground breaking video multistakeholder video explaining the core concepts to a lay audience.

The project was developed by FAO and funded by the German Government at a time when food prices were soaring and there was the need to understand how to develop bioenergy sustainably and in coordination with the agriculture sector so as to foster food security

  • As the Bioenergy and Food Security officer for the project, I led the development of the Bioenergy and Food Security Approach including the analytical framework and approach and the interlinkages of the tools involved in the assessment
  • Led the development of the BEFS analytical framework that was the first in this area to bring cross sectorial interactions into country level assessments and define which bioenergy options could be viable without impacting on food security
  • Carried out the implementation of the work and analysis for the food security components in the project countries, namely Peru, Tanzania and Cambodia and was responsible for deliverables of the project in Tanzania
  • At country level, identified of the country partners, worked closely with the country partners and supported the establishment of a multidisciplinary government platform
  • Through team efforts, defined and set up in country training activities and technical consultations for expert review of the analysis
  • Supported liason with donors and global actors in relation to project activities.
