Paolo Pessina, born in Milano (1969), graduates in composition with Azio Corghiat the Milano Conservatory (1995). He is granted a scholarship to attend the composition master classes held by Accademia Petrassi, Fondazione Toscanini in Parma (1996). In 1997, he obtains his master diploma in composition with honours at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, for which he is awarded the "S.I.A.E. Prize".
In 2000, he achieves the "Merit Diploma" in the composition master classes held by Azio Corghi at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. In 2001 and 2003, he attends the master classes for film music held by Luis Bacalov at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana where he is awarded the "Emma Contestabile Prize".
In 1997, he receives expressions of admiration and encouragement for his works by Jean Françaix.
He studies orchestra conducting with Yuri Ahronovich and Ennio Nicotra.
He works in Madrid, Palermo, Vienna, Graz and Zagreb as assistant to Alexander Rahbari.
In 2001, he forms the Orchestra Sinfonica Adriatica with gifted Italian musicians: in 2002 the first CD is presented in Rome with Yuri Temirkanov.
Alongside his artistic activity, he works as a 1st level Composition teacher at the Sassari Conservatory.
His catalogue includes stage and film scores, symphonic, vocal and chamber music. Some of his compositions also performed by Franco Gulli, Arturo Bonucci, Rodolfo Bonucci, Enzo Caroli Ruggiero Ricci and Stefan Milenkovich are published by BMG Ricordi, Sonzogno, Berbèn, Pizzicato Verlag and recorded by RAI (Italian Broadcast Corporation), Slovenia RTV and Universal Music GmbH.
Since 2006 he appears in the NAXOS catalogue both as composer and conductor.
