Thesis Project

Dual Loop Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) for Waste Heat Recovery from Marine Engines Tor Vergata University.

  • Designed and analyzed a two-loop ORC system for waste heat recovery from a 21 MW marine diesel engine.
  • Selected Cyclohexane (HTL) and R245fa (LTL) as working fluids.
  • Performed energy and exergy analysis using first and second laws of thermodynamics.
  • Simulation executed in Microsoft Excel with CoolProp library.
  • Achieved ~1.2 MW net power output with 46% exergy efficiency. Dual Loop ORC increased the total output by 5%.

Conducted exergy destruction analysis and proposed optimization strategies for sustainable marine energy.
